The mega sports festival of Minhaj University Lahore was inaugurated on 14th January 2019. The 39 aggregate games for males and 17 games for females were included in the festival.
Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Deputy Chairman Board of Governors of Minhaj University in his address said,” With the grace of Almighty, Minhaj University Lahore feels proud to host a mega sports event.” He lauded the efforts of Iqbal Murtaza, Director Sports MUL, for his contribution to organize this sports event.
He expressed his happiness that in the sports festival, both genders will be equally participating. He said that participation of females in the MUL sports activities will provide them an opportunity to improve their overall well-being and mental capabilities.
Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri further added that it is unfortunate that in private sector sports activities are neglected but added in the same breath that Minhaj University Lahore gives due importance to the sports activities as part of its mission statement. Sports activities among adolescents stimulate the spirit of physical fitness, helping them become a responsible citizen. Sportsmanship spirit promotes patience and makes one a balanced personality, he added.
Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that sports activities also teach us how to respect elders and to be affectionate towards juniors. He said that games educate us how to fight all the ordeals of life in an upright manner. God willingly, Minhaj University Lahore will keep on arranging sports activities, he stated.
Khalid Mehmood, former Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said: “It is a matter of good luck for students of Minhaj University to get plentiful sports activities. In our times, there were hardly any sports facilities. I hope that Minhaj University would continue to provide its patronage to the sports. In this respect, I duly appreciate that females are given equal opportunity to participate.”
Iqbal Murtaza, Director Sports Department MUL, in his welcome address, thanked the media persons, distinguished guests, participants and international players for being present at the MUL mega sports event. He held in high appreciation the players of Minhaj University who participated in Asian Games and secured 4th position within 45 countries that participated. He said that the success of sports activities would have not been possible without the due cooperation of the Heads/Deans of all Departments, staff and sports coordinators.
Sheikh Anees Ahmed, Secretary Pakistan Sports Board said, “I congratulate Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Director Sports and the entire Minhaj University Lahore for organizing such a remarkable sports event. Sports is part of our life and in the same way it should be made part of education.”
Rana Abdul Majeed, Chairman Pencak Silat Federation Pakistan in his address narrated,” Due to sports activities, I chose MUL for admission of my son. Today I am proud to be here, taking part in sports event. I express my best prayers and wishes to all the participants and hope that MUL will maintain its focus on promoting sports.”
At the end of the opening ceremony Dr. Muhammad Aslam Ghauri, Vice Chancellor MUL, Dr. Shahid Soroya, Pro-Vice Chancellor MUL, Col (r) Muhammad Ahmed, Registrar MUL, other faculty members and Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri gave away medals to the winners of the Asian Games and certificates to the members of Minhaj Seekers Club for their active participation and commitment to MUL events.
There was a grand demonstration of martial arts, gymnastics, archery and Pencak Silat which was highly applauded by the audience. The sports activities of Minhaj University will continue till 18th January 2019.
