Education key to protecting students from extremism: Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri

Addressing a ceremony on the completion of various educational and training courses held under the banner of COSIS, Chairman MQI Supreme Council Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri has said that the College of Shariah and Islamic Sciences is a distinguished educational institution dedicated to the imparting of education in religious and contemporary sciences. He said that built by Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri in 1986, this great seat of learning has been serving the masses with the provision of quality and affordable education. He said that the hundreds of students are getting an education, adding that it is the only institution where the foreign qualified professors and teachers are imparting education from Matric to the PhD along with the Shariah sciences. He said that the students who graduated from the COSIS are rendering their valuable services to the nation in different capacities.

Prof Dr Khan Muhammad Malik, Dr Mumtaz-ul-Hassan Barvi, Dr Shahid Soroya, Allama Rana Muhammad Idrees and others also spoke on the occasion. Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that COSIS focuses on the development of moral and spiritual aspects of the personality in addition to creating leadership qualities among the students. He said that the scholars produced by the COSIS are not only free of any trace of extremism but also capable of presenting the moderate vision of Islam. He said that the scholars who graduated from the COSIS are making tremendous contributions to various sectors of national life.

Expressing his views on the occasion, Prof Dr Khan Muhammad Malik sahib that COSIS has the distinct honour of producing students who topped the Punjab public service examinations and Lahore Board. He said that special attention is paid on sports, tourism, and culture for the mental and physical development of the students. They are also persuaded to offer their prayers five times a day regularly while they are at the College. He said that a greater challenge than providing education to the students is to set their ideological direction right, adding that the educational institutions set up by the MQI are fulfilling this responsibility.

Dr Mumtaz-ul-Hassan Barvi said in his speech that the COSIS prepares the students to make correct career choices in life. He said that we also focus on inculcating in them the ability of public speaking and equipping them with the writing skill. He said that an excellent hostel facility is also available for the students coming from far-off areas. He said that the modern library that is stuffed with thousands of books is there for the students to get wisdom from. He said that the new generation can be protected from the scourge of extremism and radicalism through education and presentation of a moderate vision of Islam.
