MQI participates in a UN consultation on women empowerment

Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI) has had a special consultative status within the UN since 2011 and is continuously invited to UN meetings and conferences around the world. Minhaj-ul-Quran representatives, Ayman A. Hussain, member of MQI Scandinavia, Dawood Mehmood, member of MQI UK and Safyah A. Malik, member of MQI UK, actively participated in the multi-stakeholder hearing as representatives of Minhaj-ul-Quran International on Tuesday 21st July 2020.

The MQI representatives interacted with a variety of diverse changemakers, organisation executives, and dignitaries around the world via the virtual platform provided by the UN, on the topic of protecting and empowering women and young girls worldwide. Current issues, including the Covid-19 pandemic, were discussed with a special focus on how societies and governments are handling the changes related to this field.

The hearing concluded with the closing statement by the President of the General Assembly. Minhaj-ul-Quran International recognises the deep importance of the topics raised by the UN within this hearing, for the empowerment of women and young girls around the world and continues to participate in conferences and events by the UN through its special consultative status.
