Success in the Hereafter Lies in Patience and Gratitude in This World: Allama Rana Idrees

Rana Idrees Qadri Addressing Khutba Jummah in Jamia Shaykh ul islam

The Deputy Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran, Allama Rana Muhammad Idrees, delivered a sermon on the topic of patience, gratitude, and awareness of the Hereafter during the Friday congregation at Jamia Sheikh-ul-Islam. He stated that true success lies in the Hereafter, and the world is merely a temporary testing ground.

Allama Rana Muhammad Idrees emphasized that worship is only accepted when it is done solely for the pleasure of Allah. He said that true worship involves humility, feelings of gratitude, and a complete submission to Allah’s will in every circumstance. If a trial comes from Allah, one should practice patience; if a blessing is granted, one should show gratitude.

Referring to the meaning of a verse from the Holy Qur’an, he said:

"Endure these hardships patiently, and We shall also remain with you patiently – and be grateful!"

He added that sometimes Allah tests by giving, and sometimes by taking away. Every aspect of this world is a divine syllabus. Citing the example of Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him), he said the height of gratitude is when a person sees blessings as a test and avoids arrogance, instead expressing humble thanks to Allah.

Similarly, he mentioned the life of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) as a prime example of ultimate sacrifice and trials. His final test introduced mankind to the elevated station of submission and contentment with Allah’s decree.

He concluded by saying that true patience and gratitude are when a person sacrifices their own desires for the will of Allah. One who is blessed with humility and modesty in this world will be triumphant in the Hereafter.

In his final words, he said:

"This world is nothing but a deception, and as the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Successful is the one who prostrates and gives thanks.'"
