Addressing the Friday congregation at Jamy Shaykh-ul-Islam Lahore, Deputy Secretary-General of Tehreek Minhaj-ul-Quran, Allama Rana Muhammad Idrees, said that the month of Muharram is a glorious chapter in Islamic history, in which the line between truth and falsehood became clearly defined. This sacred month delivers a message of great sacrifices, patience, steadfastness, truthfulness, and the protection of justice.
Speaking about the second Caliph, Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Hazrat Umar Farooq (R.A.), and his remarkable martyrdom, services to Islam, and governance based on justice and equity, Allama Idrees said that Hazrat Umar’s (R.A.) life was marked by justice, courage, and integrity. He held deep reverence for the Ahl al-Bayt and was a close advisor to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). His acceptance of Islam brought new energy and spirit to the Muslim ranks.
He added that Hazrat Umar's (R.A.) leadership, piety, and sincerity remain a beacon of guidance for the Muslim Ummah even today. His era of caliphate is a golden chapter in Islamic history, marked by the establishment of the public treasury (Bayt-ul-Mal), the judicial system, the creation of a welfare state, public consultation, provincial administration, and countless initiatives for public welfare. His governance model serves as a practical example for today's rulers.
Allama Idrees emphasized that Hazrat Umar (R.A.) proved that when power is subordinated to justice, governance becomes an act of worship. He spread Islam to the farthest corners of the earth, eradicated oppression, and ensured social justice.
Highlighting the need to acquaint the younger generation with Hazrat Umar’s character, courage, and steadfastness, he noted that despite being the Caliph, Hazrat Umar (R.A.) would patrol the streets at night, never used even a penny from the public treasury for personal needs, and considered himself accountable to every individual in the state.
In the current times of uncertainty, injustice, and crises, Allama Idrees said that adopting the character of Hazrat Umar (R.A.) is the only path to salvation. His rule offered equal protection of life and property, employment, and peace to people of all races, religions, and backgrounds. He also established ethical and legal principles for international trade, which led to significant economic prosperity on both individual and collective levels within the Islamic state.
Allama Idrees further stated that the holy month of Muharram teaches us that no matter how powerful falsehood may appear, it ultimately falls before the truth.
He concluded by emphasizing that the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his family at Karbala is an eternal beacon for all humanity. Imam Hussain (A.S.) sacrificed everything for the survival of Islam but never bowed before falsehood. His message is one of standing firm against oppression, establishing justice, and fostering unity among Muslims. We must understand the true message of Muharram and implement it in our lives, he said.
