Khuram Nawaz Gundapur, a senior leader of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, stated that every penny of the national treasury should be spent on the rehabilitation of flood victims. He suggested a ban on official luncheons, dinners, and the advertisement campaigns of the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers for one year. He emphasized that the ruling class should adopt simplicity and show practical solidarity with the flood victims.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur pointed out that due to the destruction caused by the floods, the government’s machinery and actions have proven ineffective. While the floods could not be stopped, the excessive use of public funds could be curtailed. He urged that for one year, all foreign trips, lavish events, and the practice of traveling with large entourages should be abandoned so that resources could be directed towards the victims.
He further highlighted that after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, now Sindh is also severely affected by the floods. In Punjab alone, over 1.3 million acres of standing crops have been destroyed across 28 districts. The initial estimate of damages in Punjab exceeds 450 billion rupees. He warned that food prices could rise by up to 30% in the coming days.
The PAT Secretary General stressed that the ruling class's actions and living standards should reflect the severity of the situation. People will no longer be satisfied with fancy statements or expensive advertising campaigns; there must be real action.
He also praised the efforts of organizations like Minhaj Welfare Foundation, which are actively involved in relief work. He urged that this charitable effort should be expanded, and the flood-affected families should not be left alone in this difficult time. Every individual should participate in the relief efforts.
