The Founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, said that Sufism is the name of self-reformation, purification of character, and love for the Creator and His creation. In today’s materialistic age, it is vital to understand the true spirit of Sufism, for its teachings promote tolerance, peace, and brotherhood in society.
He expressed these views while addressing the spiritual gathering of the monthly “Majlis Khatm-us-Salat Ala’n-Nabi ﷺ and Bari Giyarhveen Sharif” organized by Minhaj-ul-Quran and Bazm-e-Qadriya at the central secretariat in Model Town.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that Sufism is not about customs and rituals; rather, it is the beautiful blend of the delight of Divine Oneness (Lazzat-e-Tawheed), Divine Love (Ishq-e-Ilahi), closeness to the Holy Prophet ﷺ (Qurb-e-Mustafa ﷺ), and obedience to Shariah. True Sufism is, in fact, a comprehensive system of inner purification, Divine knowledge, and love of Allah that awakens the true consciousness of servitude within a human being.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri added that Hazrat Ghaus-ul-Azam (RA), through his pure and exemplary character, proved that there is no contradiction between Shariah and Tariqah — rather, both complement and complete each other.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that when a person develops true love for Allah Almighty, he begins to see the presence of God in every direction — and that is the essence of Sufism. The revival of the Muslim Ummah, he emphasized, is only possible through spiritual awakening, moral training, and the renewal of one’s connection with Allah.
He advised that sincerity, humility, remembrance of Allah (Dhikr-e-Ilahi), and service to humanity should be adopted as guiding principles, for the path to Divine proximity begins with purification of the self (Tazkiyah-e-Nafs), obedience to the Qur’an and Sunnah, and love for the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
During the event, the Gosha-e-Durood presented the record of salutations recited in September — 7,042,897,53 times — bringing the grand total of Durood Shareef recited so far to 819,297,915,237 times, which was humbly presented in the court of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
The recitation of the Holy Qur’an was performed by Qari Allah Bakhsh Naqshbandi. Muhammad Afzal Naushahi, Shakeel Ahmad Tahir, Zaheer Bilali Brothers, Muhammad Zahid Qadri, Muhammad Ahmad Qadri, Muhammad Zaid Mohi-ud-Din, and Muhammad Sami Bilali Brothers presented Naats and Manqabats.
The ceremony was attended by Engineer Rafiq Najm, Shehzad Rasool, Haji Manzoor Hussain, Raja Zahid Mahmood, Haji Muhammad Ishaq, Hafiz Abid Bashir Qadri, Mazhar Mahmood Alvi, Lahore President Muhammad Iqbal Bajwa, Rana Muhammad Jamil Qadri, Haji Ahmad Sadiq, Shahbaz Hussain Bhatti, Saqib Mahmood Bhatti, Hafeezullah Javed, Mian Ansar Mahmood, Raja Sajjad, Nazim Ali Rehmat, Saeed Akhtar, Sehr Anbreen, Ayesha Mubashar, Noreen Alvi, as well as a large number of scholars, spiritual leaders, and people from various walks of life
