Deputy Chairman of the Board of Nizam-ul-Madaris Pakistan, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, stated that for 76 years after the creation of Pakistan, religious seminaries were consistently neglected in terms of state patronage. He said that religious seminaries are the custodians of Islam’s scholarly heritage. Despite limited resources, they have played a significant role in promoting religious education and contributing to social development.
He expressed these views while addressing a seminar held to mark the 5th Foundation Day of Nizam-ul-Madaris Pakistan. He added that due to the absence of timely reforms, doubts and misconceptions had arisen regarding seminaries. However, in just five years, Nizam-ul-Madaris Pakistan addressed these concerns through practical measures and achieved a historic milestone by implementing a curriculum aligned with contemporary requirements.
The Secretary General of Nizam-ul-Madaris Pakistan, Dr. Mir Asif Akbar, said that over the past five years, the organization has provided more than 12,000 students with 40 modern and technical courses, enabling them to secure dignified employment alongside their religious education. He further stated that Nizam-ul-Madaris Pakistan holds the unique distinction of modernizing and contemporizing a nearly 275-year-old religious curriculum. These reforms have enabled hundreds of thousands of seminary students to become part of the national educational and developmental mainstream.
Deputy Secretary General Dr. Rafiq Najm said that under the patronage of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, an opportunity arose to reform the seminary curriculum. Due to his intellectual guidance, the Islamic philosophy of peace was incorporated into the curriculum as a formal subject.
Deputy Secretary General for Media Affairs Noorullah Siddiqui stated that religious seminaries are the custodians and guardians of Islam’s illustrious scholarly heritage. He described seminaries as the world’s largest non-governmental network, operating on a self-help basis to educate millions of students. He added that Nizam-ul-Madaris has adopted modern techniques, including the online monitoring of examinations.
The seminar was hosted by Controller of Examinations Allama Ain-ul-Haq Baghdadi. Among those in attendance were Raja Zahid Mahmood, President of Minhaj-ul-Quran Lahore Iqbal Bajwa, Jawad Hamid, Colonel (R) Khalid Hayat, Noorullah Siddiqui, Mian Rehan Maqbool, Arif Chaudhry, President Lahore PAT Engineer Malik Ahmad Akhwan Awan, Allama Ashfaq Chishti, Mian Abdul Qadir, and other leaders.
