Attended by the central, provincial, and district officeholders, the consultative meeting of Pakistan Awami Tehreek was held at the central secretariat in which tributes were paid to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Addressing the meeting, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said the armed forces of Pakistan have defended every nook and corner of the country at every difficult hour. He said our martyred soldiers gave a befitting reply to the advancing enemy that dreamed of having a tea party in Gymkhana Lahore.
The PAT Secretary General said that September 6 reminds us of the heroic sacrifices that our forces rendered for the defence and security of the motherland. He said that no one can dare cast an evil eye on Pakistan as long as our valiant armed soldiers are there to protect us. He said the people and the forces are together for the defence of the country.
The meeting was attended by Brig (r) Iqbal Ahmad Khan, Dr Sajid Mahmood Shahzad, Engineer Rafique Najam, Sardar Shakir Mazari, Allama Rana Muhammad Idrees, Sidra Karamat, Jawad Hamid, Mazhar Mahmood Alvi, Irfan Yousaf, Hafiz Ghulam Farid, Shahzad Rasool and Altaf Randhawa.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the sacrifices of the martyrs cannot be forgotten. He said the Defence Day demands that we bring about unity in our ranks and make the country into an economic power. He said when the country is economically powerful, it will feed directly into a more powerful defence. He said that we should be indebted to our armed forces for their heroism and sacrifices.
Brig. (r) Iqbal Ahmad Khan said in his speech that the nation and our military gave a message to the world in 1965 that no power can withstand a united nation driven by the resolve to protect itself. He said the message of the Day is that we need to invest in furthering the causes of peace, unity, and brotherhood to make the future of our succeeding generations bright and safe. He said we need to renew our pledge to safeguard our sovereignty, defence and security. He said those who sacrificed their lives for the defence of the country's ideological and geographical borders are our benefactors. He said the armed forces uprooted the cancer of terrorism in the last few years, an unparalleled example anywhere in the world.
MUL Vice Chancellor Dr Sajid Mahmood Shahzad, while speaking on the occasion, said that the more powerful the defence, the stronger the nation. He said that September 6 is the yardstick on which we can measure our performance and capability to take on the crises. He said where September 6 reminds us of the bravery, courage and heroism of our armed forces, it also draws our attention to the need for patriotism, national honour and integrity. He said the Day is also important in the sense that the whole nation closed all gaps and became one fired by the ambition to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The consultative meeting paid rich tributes to the martyrs and Ghazis of 1965 followed by Dua for the safety, security, and prosperity of the country.
