Muharram is a month of patience, sacrifice, and establishment of justice
The Muslim Ummah must learn truth, sincerity, and unity from the character of Imam Hussain (RA)
In his special message at the beginning of the month of Muharram, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the founder and patron-in-chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, said that the month of Muharram reminds us of great sacrifices. The grandson of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), sacrificed everything on the battlefield of Karbala to safeguard the foundations of Islam, refusing to accept the tyranny, brutality, and anti-Islamic actions of Yazid.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri emphasized that the sacrifice of the Prophet’s (PBUH) family was not just a historical event, but a timeless symbol of resistance against oppression, support for truth, and rejection of falsehood. He added that it is critically important in today’s time to draw lessons from the noble character of Imam Hussain (RA).
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the Muslim Ummah must abandon sectarianism, hatred, and intolerance, and instead adopt the path of love, brotherhood, and unity—this is the true message of Hussainiyyah. He urged scholars from all schools of thought to spread the message of tolerance, fraternity, and peace during the days of Muharram.
He stated that sectarianism and hatred contradict the very spirit of Hussainiyyah. To be a true follower of Imam Hussain (RA) means to promote peace, justice, and unity. Muharram, he said, is a month of patience, sacrifice, and the establishment of justice.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri further noted that Imam Hussain (RA) set an unparalleled example of steadfastness, spiritual dignity, and sincerity in the face of tyranny, oppression, and corruption during the battle of Karbala. His martyrdom was not a struggle for political power but a mission to raise the word of truth against a false system.
He said that the name of Imam Hussain (RA) continues to be a symbol of hope for the oppressed, a rallying call for those who stand for truth, and an inspiration for reformers. The message of Muharram, he concluded, is a wake-up call for us to adopt a Hussaini stance against injustice, corruption, sectarianism, and inequality, and to promote unity, harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect among the Ummah.
He emphasized, "Today, the Muslim Ummah needs to learn the lessons of unity, sacrifice, courage, and awareness from the life of Imam Hussain (RA).”
