On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the founder and patron-in-chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, said in his message that the world must respect human rights in order to achieve peace and stability. He stated that Islam grants the sanctity and dignity of human life a status unmatched by any other civilization or religion. Islam equates the killing of an innocent person with the killing of the whole of humanity.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the concept of human rights is not a product of
the modern age; rather, its foundations were laid centuries ago in the Qur’an and
the Sunnah. He added that the teachings of Islam make it clear that respect for
human rights, the protection of life and property, and the provision of justice
are the foundations of any civilized society.
He further stated that the majority of the Articles of the Charter of Madina relate
to the protection, dignity, and rights of human beings.
Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that wars, extremism, oppression, injustice, and state coercion have deprived millions of people around the world of their basic rights. Human Rights Day reminds us that respect for humanity is not merely a slogan, but an international, collective, and legal responsibility.
He said that human rights are not just an international principle; they are the common language of humanity that guides the world toward peace, justice, and equality. By declaring the sanctity and dignity of a human being to be greater than the sanctity of the Sacred House of Allah (the Ka‘bah), the Prophet of Islam elevated the necessity and importance of human rights far above conventional debate and discourse, he said.
