On the Night of Miraj, the Holy Prophet ﷺ Was Blessed with the Vision of the Divine: Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri

A Miracle Reflects Eternal Truth, a Bestowal from the Lord Almighty, and Prophetic Majesty

The Founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran Movement, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, has stated that the journey of Miraj is the greatest journey in the history of the universe and, like all other miracles, is a manifestation of the Absolute and Perfect Power of Allah Almighty.

He said that the journey of Miraj took place in a state of full wakefulness. A miracle is a reflection of eternal truth, a divine gift from the Lord Almighty, and a manifestation of prophetic grandeur. He said that the human intellect is incapable of fully comprehending the details of the journey of Miraj.

During this blessed journey, the Holy Prophet ﷺ witnessed countless wonders, the descriptions of which are scattered across thousands of books of Hadith, he added.

Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri emphasized that the Holy Prophet ﷺ holds the unique honor and distinction of being granted witnessing and the vision of Allah on the night of Miraj, whereas other believers will be granted this blessing in the Hereafter. He said that the noble Hadiths state that the Holy Prophet ﷺ was shown Paradise, Hell, and the realities of the Hereafter, while all others will be granted direct witnessing of these realities only after death.

He further stated that denying the miracle of Miraj occurring in a state of wakefulness is, in fact, a denial of the Absolute Power of Allah Almighty. The Qur’an, from beginning to end, presents the event of Miraj as a manifestation of the Divine Omnipotence. This is why the Qur’an begins the account of the journey of Miraj with the words “Subḥāna alladhī” (Glory be to Him), so that no doubt or misconception remains in the minds of the listeners.

Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri explained that had the claim of Miraj been made by a human being, questions and objections could have arisen. However, the claim of causing the Miraj is made by Allah Almighty Himself—He Who is Supreme, Exalted, and free from all imperfections.

Shaykh-ul-Islam further said that some people claim the event of Miraj occurred in a dream state. Had this journey taken place during sleep, the disbelievers and polytheists of Makkah would never have hesitated to accept it. He said that their rejection stemmed precisely from the fact that the Holy Prophet ﷺ claimed to have traveled physically, with his blessed body, from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa and then through the celestial realms—something that lay far beyond their limited understanding and intellect. Had it been a dream experience, they would have had no reason to object.
