Moral Decline in Nations Does Not Occur Overnight, Says Founder-Patron of Minhaj-ul-Quran
The Founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, delivered a thought-provoking address at the three-day Al-Hidayah Training Camp 2026 in Ontario, Canada, on the theme "From Humanity to Moral Degradation: Ethical and Spiritual Decline."
He said that the moral decline of nations does not occur suddenly. Human beings, he explained, have been granted the freedom to choose between righteousness and wrongdoing, and it is their repeated choices, environment, companionship, and upbringing that ultimately shape their character and determine the direction of their future.
The training camp attracted a large number of men, women, and young participants from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and across Europe. Attendees described the camp as a valuable blessing for Muslim families living in the West.
In his address, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that continuously ignoring the voice of one's conscience, following base desires, and treating sins as routine gradually leads to spiritual decline. He stressed that true success can only be achieved through spiritual purification (tazkiyah al-nafs), self-accountability, remembrance of Allah, righteous companionship, and consistent moral discipline.
Highlighting the enthusiastic participation of women as one of the most encouraging features of Al-Hidayah Canada, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that mothers play a pivotal role in the moral development of society. He expressed gratitude to Allah that, through the educational and outreach efforts of Minhaj-ul-Quran, increasing numbers of Muslim women are embracing ethical and spiritual learning.
He congratulated Minhaj-ul-Quran International Canada, Muslim Youth League, Minhaj Women League, Minhaj Sisters, Minhaj Welfare Foundation, the organizing committee, and the volunteers for the successful and historic organization of Al-Hidayah Camp 2026.
Expressing optimism for the future, he said that Al-Hidayah Canada has the potential to develop into a permanent institution dedicated to the spiritual, intellectual, and academic development of Muslim youth and hoped that its reach would eventually expand across North America, including the United States.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Shaykh Hammad Mustafa Al-Madani Al-Qadri, Shaykh Ahmad Mustafa Al-Arabi Al-Qadri, Dr. Faisal Iqbal Khan, Dr. Ghazala Qadri, Khadijah Qurrat-ul-Ain Qadri, and other distinguished scholars and academics.
