Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri's Insightful Address at Melbourne Mega Conference Highlights the Qur’anic Alignment with Modern Science and Existence of God
His Eminence Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri partook and delivered a keynote address at Melbourne Mega Conference that Explores the Harmony Between Modern Science and the Existence of God.
Accompanying him were the Chairman Supreme Council Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, President Minhaj-ul-Quran International Prof Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, President Minhaj-ul-Quran Women League International Dr Ghazala Qadri, Mrs Fizzah Hussain Qadri, Shaykh Hammad Mustafa al-Madani al-Qadri, Mrs Safa Hammad Qadri, and Shaykh Ahmad Mustafa al-Arabi al-Qadri.
The event saw the presence of dignitaries such as Consul-General of Pakistan Victoria, Austria, HE. Mr Syed Moazzam Hussain SHAH, Member for Melton Legislative Assembly, Mr Steve McGhie, Director of the National Centre for Contemporary Islamic Studies and the Convenor of Islamic Studies at the University of Melbourne, Prof Abdullah Saeed, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Syed Makhdoom Majeed Hussain Shah and others.
Scholars, students, and community members gathered at the Pullman Hotel Melbourne for the landmark Melbourne Mega Conference on “Modern Science and the Existence of God.” The event, hosted by Minhaj-ul-Quran International Victoria, featured a keynote address by the renowned authority on Islam and founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri.
Shaykh ul Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri’s keynote address delved into the existence of God through the lens of modern scientific discoveries, with a particular focus on embryology as described in the Holy Qur’an.
He gave an overview of the historical background of embryology, tracing its roots back to the ancient Greek scholars like Aristotle and Galen. He highlighted the stagnation of scientific knowledge about embryology from the 6th to the 16th century, noting that significant advancements were not made until the invention of the microscope in the 17th century.
Emphasizing the divine knowledge provided by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), he cited a hadith from Musnad Ahmad (hadith no. 4438) that described the creation of man, which aligns with modern scientific understanding. He also referenced several Qur’anic verses that accurately describe the stages of embryonic development, including Sura Nuh (71:13–14), Surah al-Zumar (39:6), and Surah al-Mu’minun (23:13–14).
He discussed the Qur’anic insights into fertilization and genetic programming, highlighting verses from Sura al-Sajdah (32:8), Surah an-Najm (53:45–46), and Surah ‘Abasa (80:17–19) that describe these processes with remarkable precision. He also explained the concept of germinal layers as mentioned in the Quran, which correspond to the modern embryological understanding of the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm.
The contributions of Professor Keith L. Moore, a renowned embryologist who acknowledged the scientific accuracy of the Qur’anic descriptions of embryology, were also highlighted. Shaykh-ul-Islam shared his meeting with Moore in 1995, where Moore recognized the divine source of the Qur’anic knowledge.
In his closing remarks, Shaykh-ul-Islam emphasized the importance of understanding the harmony between science and faith, urging the audience to reflect on the profound insights provided by the Qur’an. The conference concluded with key takeaways and discussions on the future implications of integrating scientific discoveries with religious knowledge.
The Melbourne Mega Conference successfully showcased the compatibility of modern science with the teachings of Islam, providing a platform for intellectual and spiritual growth for all attendees.
